Environmental Planning

Recently passed the Board Exams for Environmental Planning, now that I have officially earned my license I am not at a point where I need to define myself as a planner. What is important is that you get out there in the trenches, and do the work that should start change here in the country.

Skyscrapercity

Out of the three websites related to Urban Planning that I mentioned, I the Skyscrapercity forums is the one that I visit the most.

There's a lot of information there from Filipino forumers as well, what I like about this site is that it gives you up to date information on what is happening here in the Philippines in terms of topics related to planning.

Squatter Camps in the US

I don't know if the US should learn from us or we should learn from them on how to manage squatter colonies.

I agree that this is a actually a natural solution to housing because people still need a place to sleep and eat even if you keep evicting them from these places.  Planning for squatter colonies?

Some thoughts:
1) There should be order and safety for the residents
2) Sanitary services must be available
3) Waste management services should be available or at least community enforced
4) "Building standards"
5) Active relocation and employment plans, thus, these communities must not be permanent but only a place to transition to better housing

Standard size for jeepneys in QC sought

MANILA, Philippines -- The head of the Quezon City Police District
Traffic Enforcement Group wants passengers jeeps in the city to have a
uniform length and size, saying the extended jeepney bodies were not
safe and have been contributing to traffic problems.

"As part of the safety net measures in the streets, I would propose
that all passenger jeeps should have a standard size and length,''
Superintendent Rudie Valoria told the Philippine Daily Inquirer (parent
company of INQUIRER.net) in an interview on Sunday (read more)

Maybe even a uniform look and make would be ok.

SM Condo Project Opposed

I would actually agree that a 39 Storey condo beside Delastrada Church would stick out like a sore thumb.  Did SM's project developers look into the possibility of opposition to the project before they bought the property?
